Lockheed answered the call with the C-130 Hercules with a maximum load of 72,000 lbs. (32658.65 kilograms) and a takeoff weight of 155,000 lbs. (70306.81 kilograms). It had a maximum speed of 366 mph. The design was so good, as of 2021, it remains in active service in the U.S. military.
